The procurement department are responsible for about £101million non-pay expenditure. This post shall contribute to make the procurement department integral in being a strategic function across the University group and continue the departments evolution upwards on its Procurement Maturity Assessment journey and deliver greater Value for Money outcomes for both capital and revenue expenditure.

You will be educated to degree standard or equivalent relevant qualification with the appropriate breadth of experience and will either be working towards or committing to undertake level 4 (Diploma) of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) qualification or equivalent as part of the criteria for this trainee post.

Upon full job role training and successful completion of MCIPS the postholder shall become a Contract Manager with remuneration up to the next salary band.

You will be a key member of the contract team within the procurement department dealing with internal stakeholders, contractors and suppliers to the University group. This will mean developing and leading on a defined portfolio of sourcing categories and projects throughout the tender process and subsequent contract management for contracts managed by the contract team. Any tendering and contract award process will be carried out in accordance with the University Policies and Regulations (UPR’s) and the Public Contracts Regulations (PCR 2015) so any experience of working in a public sector purchasing environment and understanding of EU Procurement Directives would be an advantage.

Applicants will need to demonstrate a proven aptitude for team working whilst still being able to work on own initiative to deliver desired outcomes. You will need to be professional, adaptable, determined and able to meet conflicting demand so good IT skills, a methodical approach and attention to detail alongside strong organisational, interpersonal and communication skills all required.
