Detail information about job Senior Lecturer/Reader (Associate Professor). Terms and conditions vacancy

Senior Lecturer/Reader (Associate Professor) in Microbiology

As part of an investment in the biological sciences in the Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Bath, we are seeking two outstanding scientists to join our Infection and Immunity research theme (http://www.bath.ac.uk/bio-sci/research/infection_and_immunity/). We particularly encourage applications from individuals whose research is focused on mechanisms of microbial virulence, adaptation and evolution, but all fields of infection and immunity will be considered.

The successful candidate will be an experienced researcher employing state-of-the-art molecular microbiology, genomics or computational approaches to study key priority areas including - but not limited to - antimicrobial resistance, host-microbe interactions or pathogenesis of bacteria and fungi. An alignment to areas of interests of existing staff will be welcome, positioning the appointee to establish collaborations within our Infection and Immunity research theme, the new Milner Centre for Evolution and the University more widely e.g. the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology or the Centre for Mathematical Biology.

Candidates will be expected to have a first-class track record of research grant funding and publications and should have an established history of successful collaboration both within and outside their current institution, commensurate with their career stage. The candidates will be expected to develop and contribute to teaching in our undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum in microbiology and related subject areas.

Interviews are expected in mid-October 2017. Queries should be addressed to Dr. Susanne Gebhard ([email protected], Theme Lead) or to Prof. Rod Scott ([email protected], Head of Department).

The University of Bath and our Department have an Athena SWAN Bronze award. We are committed to equality of opportunity and encourage applications from women and underrepresented groups.
