Detail information about job Research Associate - Palaeontology Modeller. Terms and conditions vacancy
Applications are invited for a NERC-funded Research Associate, for 24 months, based in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol. This research is part of a broader consortium of UK and Chinese researchers, who will in parallel be exploring the timing and nature of attendant abiotic events. The focus is on the Permian-Triassic mass extinction and its aftermath, with a special focus on understanding resilience of clades and ecosystems.
Research Associate will focus on the recovery of major clades of fishes and tetrapods after the Permian-Triassic mass extinction, and analyses trait evolution and biotic and abiotic drivers of diversification.
Applicants will have extensive experience of palaeobiology, large databases, issues of quality and bias in the fossil record, and data analysis and modelling in R. Relevant specialist skills in phylogenetics and phylogenetic comparative methods and morphometrics would be an advantage.
You will join the Palaeobiology Research Group, based in Bristol Life Sciences. You will interact with other members of the Palaeobiology and Biodiversity Research group, as well as other members of the research consortium, in UK and China-based meetings and training events. The School of Earth Sciences was rated joint second in the UK Research Excellence Framework (REF2014), with 98% of our research output graded as ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’. The PRG was rated in 2017 (CWUG) as the best palaeontological research group in the world.
