Detail information about job Teaching Fellow. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Centre for the Development of Academic Skills (CeDAS) at Royal Holloway is seeking to appoint a full-time Teaching Fellow from 1 January 2018 to complement and extend the teaching and learning development expertise already present within the department. A job share will not be considered as the role is likely to entail significant leadership responsibilities. Although leadership responsibilities will principally be in relation to one area of activity, teaching in the department will span all core student-facing activities.

Established in 2014, CeDAS was set up to bring together learning development activities for taught students at Royal Holloway, including home and international students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. As such, the centre forms a vital component in ensuring that learners are enabled to develop key academic and professional skills to ensure success in their studies whilst also supporting international students with their language and literacy needs.

In addition to the above, CeDAS runs a number of preparatory English language programmes for non-native speakers of English, e.g. Pre-sessional.

The successful candidate will be expected to participate in all student-facing activities offered by CeDAS but will primarily be involved in delivering the Academic Skills Programme during term time. This includes the development and teaching of discipline-specific academic skills activities to both undergraduate and postgraduate student audiences across the faculties. To this end, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to work closely with colleagues in CeDAS as well as staff in academic departments in developing learning opportunities of high quality which enhance the academic performance of a diverse student population. Teaching will be in the form of 1:1 tutorials, small/large group teaching, and lectures.

Candidates should either have a solid background in teaching academic writing or first-hand experience of developing academic literacy at HE level. Candidates should further be able to demonstrate that their professional practice is firmly grounded in a thorough knowledge of relevant scholarship and theory. This should be accompanied by a strong academic background. You should be qualified to Masters’ level and hold a recognised teaching qualification at PGCE level or equivalent, e.g. HEA fellowship.
