Applications are invited for a post-doctoral Research Associate/Fellow to work on the development of protocols and strategies for the automation of single atom manipulation using scanning probe microscopes. The project will extend recently published work [Moller et al., Nanotechnology 28 075302 (2017)] to a more sophisticated methodology which modifies the tip state of a scanning tunnelling microscope so as to attain the best possible manipulation efficiency.
Candidates must hold a PhD (or be close to completion), or equivalent, in nanoscience or surface science a closely related discipline. Experience in ultrahigh vacuum and variable/low temperature scanning probe microscopy is essential, as is a background in fabricating and imaging hydrogen-passivated silicon surfaces. Candidates must also be familiar with ultrahigh vacuum techniques and technology.
This full-time post, is available from 1 September 2017 and will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 6 months. Candidates are required to be available to start as soon as practically possible, and no later than 1 October 2017.
