Detail information about job Research Scientist - Soil Physicist. Terms and conditions vacancy
Overview Of Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for a soil physicist with interests in root biology to join the soil physics team at Rothamsted Research.
We know that Deep rooting is an important trait associated with higher and more stable yields. You and the team will investigate the genetic and environmental factors that determine how well roots can locate soil pores. This will be achieved with a combination of laboratory and field experimentation, exploiting the genetic resources available to the Designing Future Wheat project. We will characterise soil profiles on commercial farms to ensure that the experimental treatments, both in the laboratory and field are relevant UK agriculture.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD / Doctoral degree in Plant of Soil Science or BSc in Physical Science and have an interest in understanding the effects of soil management on soil structure and the implications for differences in rooting patterns. The main crop of interest will be wheat and you will be expected to interact with plant scientists based at Harpenden.
There will be scope for the appointed person to develop their research interests within the context of the strategic funding at Rothamsted. The development of research proposals, to be submitted to funding bodies, will be strongly encouraged.
A driving licence is desirable with this role as travel to fields is required.
