Detail information about job Information Assistant (Collections). Terms and conditions vacancy
Library and Learning Services have a large number of diverse users from within and beyond the university community. Information Assistants in the Collections Team are focussed on bringing the best possible service to these users. They are motivated to manage resources efficiently to the benefit of students and staff, and are continuously seeking ways to improve.
The role entails using online tools such as the library management system to process invoices, receipt new items, and update records for both print and electronic resources. Maintenance of print stock, collecting statistics on collection use and engaging with suppliers of content, systems and equipment all feature in the role.
Information Assistants contribute to front-line customer service provision - you will be expected to work on helpdesks, including evening and weekend working, and in the archives as directed.
The Person
The successful candidate will ideally have some knowledge of library environments, and might have experience within a Collections team. However, more importantly they will demonstrate keenness to learn more and engage with future developments in the field. You will actively look for ways to improve what you and the team do and will be inspired by opportunities to change and develop.
You should have a positive attitude towards new technologies, should be confident with standard IT applications such as Word and Outlook, and be accurate with your keyboard skills. Good communication is key - you should be clear and concise in your communication whether that is in person, online or on the telephone.
In this busy team the successful candidate will be equally happy to work on their own tasks or contribute to team-wide activities. You will be proactive in assisting colleagues and in building strong working relationships.
We are seeking to appoint a person who will endeavour to provide excellent services for our users across the four teaching sites of the university.
