Detail information about job Lecturer in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics. Terms and conditions vacancy

Lancaster University seeks to appoint a Lecturer in Experimental Condensed Matter Physics who will build on and complement existing strengths in ultra-low temperature physics and quantum technologies. Your research may include, or combine, quantum fluids and solids, micro- and nano-electromechanics, ULT cryogenic engineering and ultra-sensitive measurement techniques.

You will have access to world-class facilities which include: the cooling machines, infrastructure, instrumentation and technical support of the Ultra-Low Temperature Group; state-of-the-art nanofabrication facilities in the new Quantum Technology Centre cleanrooms; and IsoLab, an ultra-quiet controlled environment laboratory.

You must have a Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics, or a related discipline, with a proven track record of outstanding research and publication in leading scientific journals. You will be expected to develop world-class research programmes and attract external research funds. Demonstrated success in winning research grant income is desired, and holders of personal fellowships are encouraged to apply.

Lancaster’s Department of Physics was ranked first and equal-first respectively in the 2008 and 2001 UK Research Assessment Exercises RAE and was ranked second for its world-leading research publications in the 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework REF . It is seeking to further enhance its scientific standing.

In addition to your research activities, you will also be involved with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including the supervision of PhD students. You will also be expected to contribute to academic strategic planning, management and administration as required.

The post is permanent and tenable from 2 January 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Please contact Prof Richard Haley ([email protected]) and/or Dr Viktor Tsepelin ([email protected]) of the Ultra-Low Temperature Group, or Head of Department Prof Roger Jones ([email protected]) for an informal discussion.

The Department of Physics at Lancaster University is strongly committed to fostering
diversity within its community as a source of excellence, cultural
enrichment, and social strength. We welcome those who would contribute to
the further diversification of our department.
