The Royal Northern College of Music seeks to appoint an outstanding musician as Deputy Head of School of Wind, Brass and Percussion who will act as Director of Woodwind, to teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to assist in the coordination and development of the work of a world-leading department, which numbers around 250 students and 100 teaching staff, many of whom visit from mainland Europe and beyond.
The successful applicant will be a specialist in a woodwind instrument, with an extensive range of professional connections and experiences, and will have clear plans to continue high-level professional performance alongside the role. With a broad knowledge and relevant experience of conservatoire education and of instrumental pedagogy s/he will assist with the development of the College’s partnerships with world-renowned ensembles, instrumentalists and professional recording labels, finding creative ways to build the range of training opportunities for wind, brass and percussion students which supports their transition into the music profession.
Reporting to the Head of School of Wind, Brass & Percussion, and working with the Heads and Deputies of Principal Study Schools, the successful applicant will make a significant contribution in the development of the strategic ambitions of the College in its learning and teaching, and the activity of its artistic offer.
With an outstanding profile in professional practice and/or research, and with ambitious plans for themselves and the School, the postholder will support the development of research in the music college ranked highest in Research Excellence Framework 2014.
