Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join a research group led by Professor Shankar Srinivas to work on a research program whose aim is to elucidate how the main tissues of the early embryo arise and are patterned. You will investigate the genetic basis for the generation and patterning of the three main tissues of the gastrulation stage embryo, employing a variety of cutting-edge approaches, including: the development and use of a novel combinatorial-fluorescence genetic reporter line to uniquely mark specific cells and trace their fates; light-sheet microscopy and single cell sequencing of embryos from such reporter lines; and characterization of genetic mutants with patterning defects using immunofluorescence followed by confocal microscopy, single cell sequencing and ChIP seq.

Candidates must have, or be near to completing, a PhD/DPhil in a relevant area of research (molecular genetics, developmental biology, transcriptomic approaches or a related biological discipline), and have laboratory experience in molecular/cellular biology relevant to the project. You must possess sufficient specialist knowledge in developmental biology or next generation sequencing to work within established research programs. Experience with embryonic stem cell culture and in vitro differentiation of ES cells, and of making DNA constructs using standard recombinant DNA technology or similar molecular cloning techniques would be an advantage.

You will be based in the Department of Physiology, Anatomy and Genetics, Le Gros Clark Building, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3QX. The position, funded by the Wellcome Trust, is fixed term until 30th September 2020. An early start date is preferable.
