Detail information about job (Senior) Software Systems Engineer. Terms and conditions vacancy
Salary: £32,480 - £38,211 (Discretionary range to £43,943) or £41,878 - £49,268 (Discretionary range to £56,658) for Senior level.
Diamond Light Source is one of the most advanced scientific facilities in the world. It houses the UK’s synchrotron light source, a giant microscope that can produce beams of light 10 billion times brighter than the sun, to probe the structure and composition of matter. From viruses and vaccines, to alternative energy solutions and nanotechnology, it underpins research and innovation for more than 8,000 scientists. The development of the facility is key to maintaining its world-class, and in many areas, world-leading standing. Developments include improvements in brightness of sources, optical components and state-of-the-art detectors. Such developments initiate new requirements which drive development of the distributed-control systems.
This is an exciting opportunity, as a Software Systems Engineer or Senior Software Systems Engineer, to participate in this cutting edge facility. Working on distributed-control systems your task will be to support the development of electro-mechanical motion control systems and their integration in the overall distributed control system. This will extend from working with internal customers on specification to development and into operations.
You will be working in a distributed, heterogeneous computing environment, using bespoke motion controller, embedded servers and Linux workstations for the operator interfaces and development environment. Most server applications are coded in C or built using the EPICS control system toolkit, while client applications use a combination of Java and Python or tools.
You will need to demonstrate an excellent understanding of computing technology applied to real-time and distributed control applications and excellent programming skills. Together with a good honours degree in physics, electronic engineering or computer science. For the right candidate the position offers a relaxed non-commercial environment full of motivated individuals and comprehensive benefits.
