Detail information about job Trainee Meteorologist. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Bring your BSc or higher in Maths or Physics
  • Start your dynamic and challenging career
  • Join one of New Zealand's most trusted public-sector organisations

For over 150 years MetService has kept New Zealander's informed, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, which is one of the reasons why MetService has been recognised among New Zealand's most trusted public-sector organisations.

Did you know MetService also has a global reputation for using science and technology to creatively solve weather challenges and deliver meteorological services and products?

Weather is intertwined with everything that we and clients do, and meteorology is the career that really connects science, business and people. If you've got what it takes, acceptance as a trainee meteorologist with us could be the start of a dynamic and challenging career.

As a Meteorologist at MetService, most of your day won't involve solving equations - we've got more than enough computing power to take care of that; you'll spend time thinking about how weather systems will affect our customers and the public... so you'll be using a lot more of the scientific thinking that you're already good at.

To understand the atmosphere as a fluid you'll need a BSc or higher in Maths or Physics, and you'll have to be able to communicate these complex outcomes in a simple way to a diverse audience.

In return, we offer you world-class teaching, a fantastic working environment, and a world full of opportunities. An important part of your learning is a MetService-funded Master of Meteorology graduate program run in partnership with Victoria University of Wellington.

To apply please upload a scanned copy of your university academic transcript along with your CV and cover-letter.

Please note a condition of employment will be a
bonding of the costs associated with the Masters program. More
information will be provided to applicants offered an interview.
