The Malaghan Institute is New Zealand's leading independent health research organisation, with around 90 staff dedicated to finding cures for diseases using the body's own immune system.
We have an opportunity for an ambitious Administrator to assist in maintaining and streamlining the Research Office. The ideal candidate will be skilled at prioritising and keen to take initiative to resolve issues and meet and work towards important deadlines. This role looks after the organisation's grant applications, including funding contracts and online application grant portals. Prior experience within the funding environment is not required but would be advantageous, as would a prior understanding of service contracts.
The preferred candidate will need to be comfortable building and maintaining relationships with researchers and granting bodies, and to take initiative building rapport with all stakeholders.
We are looking at a part-time, fixed term arrangement for 12 months of approximately 10 hours per week. There will be some flexibility around working hours pertaining to our annual funding calendar.
Requirements
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help drive and support the Research Office function of the organisation, including assisting scientists to apply for grants, liaising with funding bodies, distributing funding contracts, and maintaining the grants database;
- Compiling contract reports, and keeping metrics on incoming grant applications;
- Thrive in an Admin/Support environment.
- Excellent at prioritising across a busy workload and working to meet deadlines;
- Confident working with and handling confidential material;
- An efficient worker with a keen eye for finer details;
- Willing to work across a wide platform of different coordination tasks;
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel;
- Working alongside the Finance team for budgeting purposes;
- Efficient record keeping and reporting;
- An affinity for using web portals and online systems.
