Tuvalu’s environment is under pressure, with a pressing need to conserve its scarce resources, particularly the island’s biodiversity. Make a difference with your skills in developing effective Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) processes that incorporate the newly revised EIA regulations.
The Tuvalu Department of Environment was established when Tuvalu gained independence from the British colonial rule on October 1st, 1978. The Department is current housed under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Trade, Tourism, Environment and Labour (MFATELL). The purpose of the Department is to protect and manage the fragile environment of Tuvalu.
Your role as the ideal volunteer is ensure that Government Agencies, Local Island Governments and communities are informed and familiar with the newly revised EIA Regulations and the Environmental and Social Safeguard (ESS) system. Your aim is to establish and effectively implement EIA processes and ESS systems. You will also ensure competent completion of EIA assessments.
We are looking for a volunteer with:
- Comprehensive knowledge of environmental assessment methods and techniques
- 3-5 years’ experience carrying out in depth field based EIAs
- Experience putting regulatory frameworks in place
- Experience with on-the-job training
- Well-developed critical thinking/analytical skills
This is an 1-year assignment based in Tuvalu.
