Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat is a Tourism New Zealand accredited New Zealand Luxury Lodge with gold sustainability endorsement.  We currently offer exclusive luxury accommodation for up to 8 people in the Ashley Mackenzie Villa and Pukaki Homestead.  Next to the Villa is a private spa for guest use (sauna, hot tub, workout room and massage services).  The Villa is popular for small weddings of up to 8 people and we also have 2 wedding lawns for larger groups.

We have an onsite Observatory and Wine cellar and offer a popular stargazing experience in this space. 

The Retreat is set on 66 ha of mostly forested area with walking tracks, a tennis court, petanque court and curling sheet (in winter).  The Retreat is in a rural location.

Summer is a very busy time here with an almost 100% occupancy rate over Summer and high and growing occupancy in the shoulder seasons.  Winter tends to be quieter.  We currently operate the Retreat with a small team of 4 people including the Owners, a chef and a housekeeper. 

Guest stays include breakfast provisions and a 3-course evening meal based on a garden to plate local menu.  To achieve this, we have an extensive vegetable and berry garden and duties include planting and maintaining the garden.

Our team needs to be multi-talented, hardworking, adaptable, and willing to lend a hand to a range of duties.

The Chef. The main duties of the chef position include: seasonal menu preparation and provision using local good quality food and beverages; cooking the evening meal and other food provided to guests; planning the garden for the season, maintaining the food store and preserving excess produce; wedding menu planning and catering, food safety, and some staff management (for larger wedding events). 

The Housekeeper.  Will be an all-rounder who really does enjoy: maintaining a high standard of cleaning and housekeeping of the Villa and Homestead and other facilities; can manage and organise the rotation of linen and other provisions for guest stays; has expertise in minor maintenance; can maintain the garden and loves lawn mowing. Some support during functions is also required.

Over the next 2 years, we are extending the facilities at the Retreat.

In early 2019, Moraine Lodge, a purpose-built wedding, incentive, and conference venue will be completed and will open for weddings of up to 110 people (seated).  This venue is complemented by 3 other wedding spaces at the Retreat including: 2 wedding lawns for garden weddings of 50 – 200+ people, small weddings at Ashley Mackenzie Villa.  The second stage of this development includes 3 more luxury villas offering accommodation for up to 12 people.   Once completed, we will be looking at a larger team of people to help us run the Retreat.

Right now, we are looking for a couple who would like to be part of the team delivering existing luxury services to our guests; that will work with us on the new developments (this will include labouring work as we build the new facilities) and that will have a desire to take a lead role in a larger team once the facilities are completed.  You will be someone that is prepared to help where needed and can develop into the roles required long term.

Renumeration Package

We pay well and expect a lot from you. Your renumeration package will include: free accommodation, free power, free WiFi, and incentive bonus. 

Levels of renumeration are based on skill and experience within the following starting range:

Chef: $45,000 - $50,000

Housekeeper: $36,000 - $42,000

Labouring: $20 - $22 per hour

Opportunities for growth

Based on showing long term commitment to the role, there may opportunities for the right couple to develop new services using the facilities of the Retreat on a profit share basis.

As the Retreat brings stages 1 and 2 onstream there will be opportunities to evolve the current roles.

Training in skills required for the position is offered and is based on retention.
