We are seeking a permanent, full time Social Worker 1.0FTE for Te Haika to work in our new Intake team.Te Haika is the mental health telephone contact centre for Capital & Coast District Health Board (CCDHB) and this role is responsible for managing all non-urgent referrals to 3DHB MHAIDS.This role fits the criteria for a Social Worker (3 year of practice onward) under the 3DHB Allied Health Career Framework. The hours are Monday to Friday, business hours (or can be discussed/negotiated with the successful candidate). CAMHS experience would be a definite advantage.

DUTIES

  • Answer general enquiries from referrers, members of the public and community agencies regarding mental health issues.
  • Provide an initial telephone triage to determine the persons’ eligibility for secondary mental health services
  • Provide a culturally appropriate service which is responsive to the needs of tangata whaiora/consumers, whānau/family and caregivers.
  • Use social work knowledge/theories and experience (e.g. strengths based practice, systems theory) to make a decision on the best outcome for the consumer, using the consumer’s strengths and a professional social work assessment.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • An experienced registered mental health social worker with at least 5 years of recent work experience in a DHB community mental health team or Crisis Assessment and Treatment Team
  • Experience in mental health triage and risk assessment (including knowledge of child protection)
  • An up to date annual practicing certificate with the New Zealand Social Workers Registration Board and Competence Certificate
  • As this role meets the criteria as a core Children’s Worker under the Vulnerable Children’s Act 2014, the successful applicant must consent to a full police vetting process.
