Avonside House Trust is a Ministry of Health accredited residential care provider for people with intellectual disability.  As part of this the Trust provides care to people whose needs have been assessed as requiring 24/7 residential care, supported living or respite care.  Currently the Trust (established 1975) is supporting 24 residents in modern community homes and units, and has plans to develop a complex housing individual studio apartments and space for vocational programmes.  Dedicated staff (20) support residents to lead fulfilling lives through developing their independence in daily living and increasing their ability to lead a healthy lifestyle through vocational, recreational and community activities.

Reporting to the Service Manager both Supervisors are responsible for the hands on leadership of small teams of Residential Support Workers who are rostered to cover all aspects of 24 hour care of residents including their home living, health and wellbeing, social, vocational and recreational activities and interests. The Supervisors are responsible for rosters, staff performance and development, managing the household budget for the allocated homes, supervising resident care and development programmes, and ensuring that the quality of services meets national care standards and the Trust’s operational and health and safety policies and procedures.

A key part of the Residential Care Supervisor roles is to have an overview of each Resident’s situation and needs, actively supporting staff in providing daily assistance to promote independent living including contact with family and friends, and engagement in the wider community through interests and recreational activities.

The Trust is seeking to appoint a Residential Care Supervisor who has experience in the health or community services sectors for each of their two sites.  Formal qualifications in a health related discipline are required covering intellectual disability, aged and/or mental health, occupational therapy, etc. The ability to lead and deal with complex situations in an empathetic, practical, and positive way is essential.

The Trust is focussed on outcomes and is therefore open to an employment arrangement that is agile and flexible, with an overriding requirement for the appointee to work up to 35 hours per week.

Remuneration will be negotiated to attract exceptional, motivated and experienced candidates. For more information visit www.avonsidehouse.org.nz. Please email your CV and cover letter to Hamish Ott, Recruitment Consultant [email protected] or call him on 0274321172
