We are seeking a candidate who can lead the diverse Environment, Forestry and Wood Manufacturing portfolio. The Group Manager is a key member of the Faculty Management Team and is responsible for leading staff and managing the development, design and delivery of a cohesive training programme and research activities to meet the needs of the region. Supported by a capable operations officer and admin team, the Group Manager will encounter a wide range of day-to-day and strategic opportunities with no two days the same.

The ideal applicant for this position will have:

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to effectively lead and manage diverse teams,
  • A background in forestry and/or timber manufacturing,
  • Confidence in leading a wide portfolio of high-quality programmes that span the environmental, applied sciences, forest management, forest operations and wood manufacturing areas,
  • A willingness to teach and/or conduct research,
  • A good sense for business and an ability to engage with industry and external stakeholders,
  • A deep appreciation of Matauranga Maori,
  • Experience in overseeing processes related to finances, human resourcing, training and academic programme delivery, resource planning and project management,
  • Experience in identifying new opportunities and developing cohesive business cases,
  • A willingness to travel and work across several sites, and
  • Experience working in the tertiary education sector.

With Programme Managers reporting to the Group Manager, this person will be a high performing people-orientated individual who demonstrates management and team leadership capabilities and exemplifies the Institute’s Values and Leadership Principles with excellence in people engagement and communication skills.

This role will primarily be based at the scenic Waipa campus, situated in a forested area a few minutes outside Rotorua. The Group Manager will be required to work across all campuses.
