Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for a Lecturer in Emergency Management within the Joint Centre for Disaster Research on the Wellington campus.
Candidates should have interests in, and demonstrated expertise for, research, supervision and teaching in a) emergency management; b) preparedness and responsiveness to disasters and emergencies. The successful applicant will have a commitment to developing a research programme within the Joint Centre for Disaster Research, as well as having the potential to attract external funding.
Applicants must have a PhD in Social Sciences. We are especially interested to hear from candidates who have established credibility within the Emergency Management or Civil Defence sector, and previous experience in designing and delivering professional training in the area. Experience of advisory roles to Government in relation to emergency management is also required. The appointee will be expected to contribute to a programme of teaching and research at postgraduate levels, and to supervise postgraduate research.
Collaborative teaching and research, involving colleagues working for Massey University, will be a priority. Staff may be required by the Director of the Joint Centre for Disaster Research or the Head of School of Psychology to teach for short periods on any campus of the University or by negotiation at overseas sites. As part of Massey University's commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi, the Joint Centre for Disaster Research and the School of Psychology incorporates a bicultural focus into its programmes.
The School offers degree programmes to doctoral level in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Sciences, and Emergency Management programmes at graduate and postgraduate level.
Appointment will be on either the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer Scale at a level comparative to qualifications and experience.
