POSITION DESCRIPTION – PLANT MECHANIC APPRENTICESHIP

Longwall Haul (Aust.) Pty Ltd is an underground coal contractor operating throughout the New South Wales and Queensland coalfields. Our hiring fleet includes a range of unique underground plant and equipment. We maintain a high level of quality as a result of our accreditation with the National Association of Testing Authorities with AS/NZS ISO/IEC 17020:2013. We maintain a high level of safety through our compliance with AS/NZS 4801:2001.

We are currently seeking talented applicants who have a genuine interest in the mechanical trade and mining industry, to join our apprenticeship program commencing in January 2019. You will be exposed to a range of mechanical equipment whilst gaining a qualification in Certificate III in the trade of Automotive – Mobile Plant Technology (AUR31216). You will have a strict attention to detail and a high regard to safety.

General Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Repairs and maintenance on heavy duty underground mining equipment
• Assist in rebuild of major components such as engines and transmissions as required
• Work under supervision of workshop tradesman
• Conduct pre and post hire inspections on machinery and implements
• On-site servicing of equipment and machinery
• Basic inherent workshop housekeeping duties

Selection Criteria

• Able to start full time work from mid January 2019
• Commitment to full term of apprenticeship
• Pre apprenticeship (preferred)
• Sound aptitude in mathematics and science subjects
• Ability to work as part of a team or self-directed if required
• A strong focus on safety and quality with ability to demonstrate understanding of WHS regulations and practical ability to fully adhere to them
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem solving initiative and solutions
