You will provide thought leadership to Weatherzone's data, development and meteorology teams to convert the latest atmospheric science to commercial solutions for their clients.
Client Details
Weatherzone accesses information from the BOM (Bureau of Meteorology) and other sources, to interpret and supplement it with their own highly qualified meteorologists and forecasting models. Weatherzone are passionate about understanding the weather and its effect on day to day lives.
Description
- Keep abreast of current advances in atmospheric science and numerical weather prediction, with the goal of identifying techniques that will drive commercial benefit
- Maintain and develop numerical weather prediction systems
- Develop new forecast systems that straddle the spheres of data, numerical weather prediction, development and meteorology
- Analyse numerical weather prediction data that is sourced from third parties and recommend ways in which Weatherzone can achieve optimal value from this data
- Analyse current performance of Weatherzone's Opticast short and long range forecast system, and recommend improvements, including but not limited to, algorithm changes and new data sources
- Liaise with Product and Sales team to convert client requirements into new and improved forecast systems
- Provide recommendations of optimal hardware and architectural configurations for forecast systems
Profile
- Tertiary qualification in meteorology or atmospheric sciences (essential)
- Experience working with numerical weather prediction data sets e.g. GRIBs, NetCDF
- Experience programming in Python, MATLAB, shell scripting, JAVA
- Experience compiling, running and troubleshooting WRF
- Experience working with Amazon Web Services
- Exposure to data assimilation systems and techniques
- Commercial experience working as a meteorologist
- Ability to simultaneously work across multiple varied products
- Experience working commercially with developers, meteorologists, senior management and non-technical staff
- Experience working with dispersion modelling systems, such as CALPUFF, is highly desirable
- Experience liaising directly with clients is highly desirable
