About Barwon Health
Barwon health is the major regional health provider for the Barwon South West region. It is Victoria’s largest regional health service with one of the busiest hospitals in the state, University Hospital. We serve over 500,000 people through the efforts of over 6,500 staff and more than 1000 volunteers. We provide care at all stages or life and circumstance through a wide range of services from emergency and acute to mental health, primary care, community services, aged care, and subacute/rehabilitation. Care is provided to the community through over 21 key locations throughout the region.
About the role
Barwon Health is seeking the services of an in-house general counsel on a full time basis.
In this role you will report to the CEO and will be responsible for ensuring that the organisation operates within Barwon Health’s legal framework and that its rights are fully protected through the provision of legal counsel and guidance. The role provides all areas of legal advice and legal representation on behalf of Barwon Health, including delivery of professional legal advice to Barwon Health’s Board of Directors and Board Committees either personally or in conjunction with external legal advisers. Other than the GC role there is a senior commercial lawyer, a junior medico-legal lawyer under supervised practice and a medico-legal officer in the team.
