About the role:

We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Life Underwriter to join the Suncorp Life Product & Portfolio team. You will use your sound underwriting knowledge to provide a professional, leading edge underwriting service to clients and intermediaries as well as providing quality advice on underwriting matters within agreed company guidelines and philosophy.

Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

• Assessing and accepting risks within agreed levels of authority and guidelines
• Performing all underwriting tasks within agreed service standards
• Liaising with reinsurers on large, sub-standard or facultative cases as required
• Raising the profile of Asteron Life in the market by attending appropriate conferences, seminars and meetings
• Liaising with doctors and accountants regarding medical and financial assessment when required
• Authorising underwriting decisions within limits and at times referring to the State Underwriting Manager where required

The successful candidate will possess the following experience, qualifications and skills:

• Experience in a similar position underwriting life, disability and trauma risk
• Experience with financial and accounting matters such as the ability analyse accounts and apply underwriting outcomes
• A strong appreciation of and commitment to exceptional customer service
• Strong and prompt decision making ability
• Outstanding ability to communicate effectively with people across a range of disciplines
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain strong relationships
• The ability to coach, mentor and up-skill team members at both junior and technical levels
