About the business
The Barkly Homestead is a busy roadhouse, bar and grill situated in the heart of the NT, 220km east of Tennant Creek. We service the travelling public as well as our local cattle stations. We are a popular tourist destination along the Barkly Highway, the only major highway joining QLD and the NT.
About the role
We are currently recruiting a qualified cook to work in our busy kitchen.The person in this role is responsible for preparation of meals and the general kitchen functions.
Tasks Include:
- examining foodstuffs to ensure quality
- regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment
- preparing and cooking food
- seasoning food during cooking
- portioning food, placing it on plates, and adding gravies, sauces and garnishes
- storing food in temperature controlled facilities
- preparing food to meet special dietary requirements
- may plan menus and estimate food requirements
- may train other kitchen staff

Skills and experience
The minimum skills, knowledge and abilities required to competently perform the job duties include:
Required: • Practical, hands on cooking experience of minimum 2 years • Hardworking and dedicated • Ability to multi-task • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines. • Commitment to excellence • Focus on satisfying the customer's needs and the overall success of the business and well-being of other staff • Organised and punctual • Ability to show initiative and motivation and get things done.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
- AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV (ANZSCO Skill Level 3)
