Purpose of Position

The Obstetrics and Gynaecologist will provide expert, safe and effective medical assessment and management of patients, including the provision of surgical procedures where necessary, for obstetric and gynaecological patients presenting at the Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.

Staff Specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology

The Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD is looking for an experienced Staff Specialist in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join the team at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.

Key Responsibilities:

• To provide a hospital consult service for in-patients at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital

(SDMH) in Nowra

• To work in outpatient clinics at Shoalhaven Hospital and outreach to Milton Ulladulla Hospital

• To participate in a 1 in 4 on call roster

You will join a busy Maternity Unit with 900 births per year. There are also excellent opportunities in our busy gynaecological service, in particular with endoscopic gynaecology surgery.

The Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital (SDMH) is a busy acute care facility which provides emergency care, medical, surgical and orthopaedic services to around 22,000 patients each year. The hospital has an Intensive Care Unit that incorporates High Dependency and Coronary Care beds and also provides Emergency Department services. As well as these clinical services, the hospital has a Maternity Service, a 12 bed Children’s Ward and 4 bed Special Care Nursery. 

The Shoalhaven Hospital is affiliated with the University of Wollongong and supports the training of Nursing, Medical and Allied Health staff. As such there are teaching and research opportunities through the UOW Graduate School of Medicine.

Selection Criteria

1. Registration or eligible for registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 2. Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG) or specialist recognition with AHPRA. 3. Ability to deal with emergency and elective Obstetrics and Gynaecology presentations consistent with a rural/regional setting. 4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites. 5. Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position. 6. Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital. 7. Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to Junior Medical. 8. Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
