Regional and Rural General Medicine Advance Training Program (2-year Core Program)
From 2019, General Medical Unit at Alfred Health, in partnership with Katherine Hospital in Northern Territory, and Mildura Base Hospital in Victoria, are pleased to announce this exciting initiative for General Medicine or dual trainees looking for opportunities to further broaden their clinical experience and skills in rural medicine. We will be seeking expressions of interest for two Regional and Rural General Medicine Advance Training positions. Trainees participating in these positions will receive their first core year of advance training in Katherine Hospital in Northern Territory (6 months core General Medicine) and Mildura Base Hospital/Mildura Cardiology in Victoria (6 months of Cardiology). The second core year of advance training, subject to performance review, will be provided at the Alfred Health receiving 6 months of acute care medicine and 6 months of core sub-specialty training.
The core general medicine training position at Katherine Hospital offers a breadth of experience in remote indigenous health, infectious diseases, endocrinology, nephrology and cardiology with experience in echocardiography and exercise stress testing. Trainees will also participate regularly in aeromedical remote outreach visits. Trainees will be employed directly by Katherine Hospital for this position.
The core subspecialty (Cardiology) training position at Mildura Base Hospital offers both inpatient and outpatient cardiology experience, including stress tests and echocardiography experience.
The position at Mildura Base Hospital is on secondment from Alfred Health.
These positions are best suited for trainees aspiring to become regional or rural General Physicians/dual trained physicians.
Eligible trainees (who have successfully completed FRACP written and clinical exams) interested in this Training Program should indicate their intention in the application letter.
