Purpose of Position

Provide medical governance and leadership to the Integrated Care/HITH service that is based in the Richmond Valley. The HITH medical governance will include oversight of patient care, clinical assessment and patient review. This governance will also include the clinical supervision of the HITH nursing staff.

Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice consistent with the teaching role of the Lismore Base Hospital.

Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD) seeks an experienced Specialist Integrated Care/ HITH to work with its multi-disciplinary team of staff, providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department.

The position will be primarily located at Lismore Base Hospital, but may be varied as agreed with the Director of Medical Services, and as approved by the Medical and Dental Appointment Advisory Committee (MDAAC), to other facilities in the Northern NSW Local Health District (NNSWLHD).

Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners eligible for registration in New South Wales for the above position with the Integrated Care service at Lismore Base Hospital in NNSWLHD.

Applicants should have Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and/ or other specialist recognition as provided for in the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award). Applicants expecting to be awarded their Fellowship within 3 months may be considered.  If successful, the applicant will not be subsequently eligible to commence their appointment until after the relevant qualifications and requirements are formally completed

The position requires a good working knowledge and experience in current Gastroenterology. The duties involve the provision of both a Consultation and Admission service for patients admitted to Lismore Base Hospital and will also provide an opportunity for teaching and research.

Lismore Base Hospital is a regional teaching hospital with a growing junior medical officer training program and strong links to Royal North Shore, Prince of Wales and John Hunter Hospitals.  The Hospital and the University Centre for Rural Health have a good student program providing for Medical Students from University of Sydney, University of Wollongong, University of NSW and University of Western Sydney.

The successful candidate must be dedicated to a teamwork philosophy and be able to demonstrate their ability to work as a team member within the facility.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the NSW Staff Specialist (State Award).

Selection Criteria

Current Medical Practitioner, registered with AHPRA and FRACP or other college fellowship suitable for this position or other specialist recognition in accordance with the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Demonstrated current clinical practice relevant to Integrated Care/Hospital in the Home service Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement. Demonstrated commitment to continuing self-education including College requirements. Demonstrated participation in teaching undergraduate and/or post graduate level medical staff Demonstrated ability to comply with service objectives of Public Health Organisations Preparedness to participate in on call HITH Service roster and to work at various NNSWLHD HITH units as directed by the District HITH Program Manager Evidence of ability to work co-operatively with staff in a multi-disciplinary team.
