About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an enthusiastic male Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander person to join our professional Aged Care team in an expanding and dynamic service 38 hours per week. 

Biripi Aboriginal Corporation Medical Centre (Biripi ACMC) is a community controlled organisation funded by numerous agencies and levels of Government. You will be working closely within our Aged Care Service assisting with the planning, implementing and evaluating Leisure and Lifestyle activities which is designed to meet the individual needs of the Aged Care clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and support male clients to participate in cultural mens business.
  • Encourage and support clients to participate in a wide range of interests and activities.
  • Inform clients, families and staff of the range of activities available and maintain interaction with clients and their families to ensure the provision of person centered care.
  • Assist with providing and maintaining Dementia specific activities to assist with behaviour management.
  • Assist all clients to achieve a maximum independence, maintain friendships and participate within the internal and external communities.
  • Ensure all individual interests, activities, customs, beliefs and cultural backgrounds are valued and fostered.
  • Support, encourage and assist with volunteer recruitment.
  • Foster community liaison to optimise social contacts for client's response to significant days, events or celebrations which can be shared with the broader community.
  • Exceptions to the care plan are communicated to the Aged Care Manager and documented in clients' individual files
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with clients, families and other team members.
  • Plan and utilise organisational resources to achieve care plan goals.

Essential:

  • Abboriginality
  • Current First Aid Certificate Level II
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience working in an Aged Care environment
  • Ability to coordinate client CHSP social activity programs
  • Demonstrated understanding of Ageing issue including; Dementia, Falls Risks, Carer stress etc.
  • An understanding and a commitment to Quality Improvement

Desirable:

  • Certificate IV in Lifestyle & Health, Allied Health or equivalent
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Knowledge of the Aged Care Funding: CSHP / HCP
