The Telethon Kids Institute is one of the nation's leading medical research organisations with impressive facilities in Subiaco, Western Australia. It is home to more than 500 staff and postgraduate students who are dedicated to tackling the major causes of childhood disease, disability and disadvantage. Our research teams are among the world's best and we have strong affiliations with Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and all the major Western Australian universities, particularly The University of Western Australia and Curtin University.

2018 will be a significant year for the Telethon Kids Institute with a move to brand new premises within the new children's hospital building at the QEII Campus in Nedlands. The new building will see the Telethon Kids Institute co-located with the new Perth Children's Hospital and housed in state-of-the-art premises with increased space and improved access to leading edge technology and research facilities.

The Opportunity

The Biostatistician provides statistical guidance and support in respiratory disease (primarily cystic fibrosis) disease including the design of epidemiological and clinical studies, analysis of study data and reporting of results. The role also involves contributing to other areas of the Institute's operation, e.g. funding applications, education and committee membership, where statistical issues are relevant.

The Role

  • Provides statistical guidance and support.
  • Provides grant application support and advice.  
  • Co-chairing of the AREST CF data management group.  
  • Presentation of research findings to internal and external meetings, seminars and conferences.
  •  Training and supervision of students.

Experience 

  • A postgraduate degree in Biostatistics or other relevant discipline 
  • Experience in the application of statistical methods to the analysis of health data 
  • Experience with one or more statistical software packages (e.g. R, STATA, SAS, SPSS) for manipulation and analysis of data 
  • Interest in the application of statistical methods to the analysis of health and biological data 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment and contribute to a harmonious and motivated work environment 
  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail and ensure work is of high quality 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 

This is a Full time role fixed term for 12 months. Salary: Between $85,000 to $95,000 per annum with access to generous salary packaging.

The successful candidate will be required to present a satisfactory police check prior to commencement.
