Registered as the charity arm of the North Queensland Cowboys in 2015, the Cowboys Community Foundation is solely focused on making a difference in the lives of young people and especially those who are doing it tough in our communities.

The Foundation’s leading initiative, NRL Cowboys House (NRLCH), is an accommodation solution for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from remote North Queensland communities who are enrolled in Townsville secondary schools.

Currently housing 50 boys, NRL Cowboys House will grow in 2019 with the opening of its 50-bed Girls Campus for the 2019 school year.

With a passion for working with young people, the successful candidate will collaborate with the multi-disciplinary NRL Cowboys House team to provide culturally appropriate, flexible, individualised and responsive psychological services to assist the boarders living at NRL Cowboys House who have complex barriers to education success and their personal wellbeing and growth.

Evidence- based psychological services that will be provided by the position include: Psycho-education; Cognitive Behaviour therapy; Relaxation strategies; Skills training; Interpersonal therapy and Narrative therapy.

The position will play a key role in assisting the development of the NRL Cowboys House model of care, including through the administration and interpretation of the Wellbeing Wheel component of that model of care (as developed by Marumali Consultations).

Essential Skills/knowledge/qualifications:

  • Relevant qualifications and current membership (or eligibility and willingness to gain membership) of the Australian Psychological Society and demonstrated ability to comply with the profession's code of ethics and practice in accordance with legislation affecting psychology practice for maintenance of registration with the Psychology Board of Australia
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the context of, relate to, and work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait 12-18-year-old young people from very remote communities
  • Extensive experience in providing assessment, intervention and case management services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in solution-focused therapy and skills training and in operating within a strengths-based framework utilising trauma-informed practice
  • Strong communication, organisational and administrative skills
  • Exceptional report writing skills
  • Ability to work within a team in a co-located environment with autonomy.
  • Ability to engage relevant stakeholders
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • Current Working with Children Blue Card

This is a part-time position (25 hours per week) and employment can either be as an employee or contracted service provider
