An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Minda within our Professional Support Services. Our Social Workers focus on working to support successful transition for people living with a disability into meaningful alternatives to supported employment. A strong understanding of case management, community access and participation is essential.         

The ideal candidate will have an extensive understanding of the disability sector, working with people with a range of secondary disabilities (physical, sensory and psychiatric). The ability to build rapport and professional relationships with a range of people including, but not limited to people with an intellectual disability, support staff and other professionals is essential.

A Bachelor of Social Work or equivalent is required within this role as is the eligibility to be a member of the Australian Association of Social Work.

Key responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide support to people with an intellectual and other disabilities during times of

life transition such as accommodation or vocational change, bereavement, grief and

loss and relationship changes

  • Provide support to staff as needed to assist in the adequate support of the people we support
  • Develop and deliver training and resources for other staff in areas such as complex family dynamics, grief and loss and parent and professional partnerships
  • Ensure delivery of professional quality services through an efficient and effective response to referrals, maintenance of a professional knowledge base and accurate record keeping.
  • Be able to work flexibly as part of a multi-disciplinary and transdisciplinary environment to achieve positive outcomes for the people we support and their families and staff
  • Establish and maintain positive professional networks both within and outside the organisation
  • Act as a liaison and resource for families, support workers and other professionals
  • Participate in committees established for the development and maintenance of services
  • Participate in research and other projects as required

Essential requirements of the role:

  • Department of Community and Social Inclusion (DCSI) Clearance Certificate
  • Australian Driver’s Licence
  • Childsafe Environment Certification
  • Competency using computers, connected technologies such as smartphones and tablets, and associated software;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities with a sense of urgency;
