Position Summary:



A vacancy exists in the above unit for a highly motivated Nursing Unit Manager with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team. The successful applicant will be expected to be able to co-ordinate patient services- through liaison with all health care disciplines for the provision of services to meet patient needs and the timely flow of patients / clients through the system.The Nursing Unit Manger Level 3 will also ensure the implementation of hospital/health network policy and procedure; the dissemination of information and ensure a safe environment for staff and patient and assuming responsible for the direction, co-ordination and supervision of the human resources under their management and safe and efficient clinical practice. Co-ordination of patient services- through liaison with all health care disciplines for the provision of services to meet patient needs and the timely flow of patients / clients through the system.



TKCC is a state of the art cancer centre of excellence, providing clinical care and cancer research. It is a joint venture between St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney Limited and the Garvan Institute of Medical Research.

The NUM role is pivotal as the manager of the NELUNE treatment centre along with a nurse lead clinic on level 5 in TKCC. The position is responsible for the day to day operational management, coordination and quality care provided by the nursing staff within the day unit, this incorporates Oncology/ Haematology/ Apheresis service and Outpatient clinics. The NUM collaborates with the Practice Manager who coordinates the level 5 consulting area and ensures the administration services are run efficiently. The NUM position also coordinates the Head and Neck and a Bone Marrow Aspirate clinic, making sure correct clinical procedures are carried out. These clinics are staffed by nurses. The NUM promotes evidence based patient cantered care, overseeing a number of clinical trials, currently been carried out in the Nelune treatment centre. The NUM engages with internal and external stakeholders to ensure collaboration and innovation. The role also ensures appropriate rostering of staff and manages the Cancer Care Coordinators (CCC) and Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE).

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.
  • Currently registered as a Registered Nurse (Division 1) with the Australian Health Professionals Regulation Agency.
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in cancers specialty and management experience in a similar field (or willingness to undertake same within 12 months) or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated operational, financial, human resource, workplace health and safety and effective communication / interpersonal skills experience at departmental level.
  • Demonstrated experience in quality improvement principles, clinical policy and procedure development and implementation.
  • Comprehensive understanding of clinical governance and current nursing issues with in cancer. Ability to deliver, evidenced based, patient centred care within a complex cancer outpatient treatment environment.
  • Computer literacy in MS Word/Excel, Email and an electronic medical record / referral system.
  • Demonstrated evidence of integration of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills, critical thinking and analysis in their daily practice.
