A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a qualified Speech Pathologist to develop his/her knowledge of language and literacy at Ilim College. The successful applicant will work as part of the Additional Needs team which includes Speech Pathologists, Psychologists, and Special Education teachers. The role would initially entail running literacy and language intervention groups, providing training and support to teachers/integration aides and writing reports for funding applications.
Ilim College is an Islamic school that caters for P-12 students across three campuses in the Dallas/Glenroy area. Both Islamic and non-Islamic staff are employed at the college. To be successful in this role, you will be willing to work collaboratively with speech pathologists and other staff at Ilim College; to work strategically using evidenced-based practice and have excellent time management and communication skills. You will have (or will be interested in developing) a strong interest in literacy development and a sound understanding of the links between language and literacy and how this relates to the classroom.
ESSENTIAL: You must possess a graduate or postgraduate qualification in speech pathology, and be eligible for registration with Speech Pathology Australia. A current drivers license and access to a car is also required, as well as a current and valid Working with Children Check.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- Minimum 2 years experience working in a school setting or with school-aged children is desirable.
- Capacity to independently carry out language and literacy assessments and to apply highly developed conceptual and analytical skills.
- Sound knowledge of speech pathology areas such as: language development, literacy development, pragmatics, working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations and the ability to provide specialist advice on appropriate intervention strategies.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
