  • Deliver support, care, education and referral for Aboriginal clients
  • Facilitate access to health services for all members of the Aboriginal community

In order to serve the community effectively, a female applicant is required  for this position as permitted by and arguable under section 25 of the Queensland Anti-Discrimination Act (1991).

The Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health (Yulu-Burri-Ba) is responsible for providing a safe, friendly, confidential and culturally appropriate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care in line with community needs and consistent with relevant National and State Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health frameworks. Yulu-Burri-Ba has clinics at North Stradbroke Island, Capalaba and Wynnum.

Yulu-Burri-Ba is currently seeking a highly motivated Aboriginal Health Worker to work at both our Dunwich clinic on North Stradbroke Island and also at our Capalaba clinic in Brisbane's eastern suburbs.

As the successful applicant you will have:

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills and the necessary inter-personal skills to develop rapport and trust with Aboriginal people.
  • An understanding and knowledge of women's health issues and the practical needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • An understanding and knowledge of Aboriginal social, cultural and economic issues; a capacity to flexibly develop local responses to community needs; and cross cultural communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously as well as be an effective team player in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively use a computer keyboard; work with word processing and email software applications. (NB the preferred applications are Microsoft Word and Outlook. However, experience with other applications is considered relevant.)
  • Well-developed skills in health promotion and education i.e. experience in facilitating small groups.
  • Relevant nationally recognised qualification to be able to successfully obtain a Medicare Provider Number (Cert III or Cert IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Practice) or Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Community Care).
