Position overview

This is a full time position based in Bairnsdale.

The purpose of the role is to:

  • Lead the Planning and Development Team in the review, improvement and amendment of the East Gippsland Planning Scheme to meet East Gippsland Shire Council’s strategic priorities.
  • Lead the Planning and Development Team in the implementation of a statutory planning permit application fast track system.
  • Lead the Planning and Development Team in the efficient management of customer enquiries and information requests related to the Shires:
    • Statutory land use planning
    • Strategic land use planning
    • Subdivisions
    • Technical matters relating to the above
    • Facilitate development approvals through the provision of detailed advice and information to Council customers
  • Facilitate pre-application meetings involving planning permit applicant customers and relevant Council Officers and other external agencies where appropriate.
  • Coordinate the delivery of services undertaken by the Planning and Development Team and the day to day operations of the team.

What you will need to succeed

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications in Town Planning and a minimum of seven years’ experience in land use planning.
  • Experience at middle management; ideally in local government.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with service users and all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of legislation and procedures related to the functions of the Planning and Development Team.
  • The ability and capacity to make independent and unassisted decisions.
  • A willingness to work with, assist and mentor other less experienced professionals.
  • The ability to lead, innovate and adapt to change.

The successful applicant will be required a current Police Check. Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in Australia.
