About us
 
The Department of Justice delivers legal, court and supervision services to the people of NSW by managing courts and justice services, implementing programs to reduce crime and re-offending, managing custodial and community-based correctional services, protecting rights and community standards and advising on law reform and legal matters.
 
Custodial Corrections is a large part of Corrective Services NSW and is responsible for the management of approximately 11600 inmates in 36 correctional centres across NSW. Custodial Corrections is entrusted with ensuring the safe and secure management of inmates with a focus on the facilitation of programs and services to reduce re-offending thus enhancing community safety and confidence in the broader Justice system.
 
About the role
 
Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner, the Director Custodial Corrections – Operational Support Services, is responsible for leading the delivery of quality Custodial Corrections operational support services, programs and initiatives ensuring effective and efficient utilisation of resources to meet expected operational outcomes. Additionally, this role will:
 

  • Contribute significantly to the development of the Custodial Corrections’ state-wide action plan and manage the implementation of identified strategic initiatives
  • Oversee the Operational Support Services group’s budget bids and financial performance
  • Drive continuous improvement and culture development to ensure best practice within Custodial Corrections
  • Oversee governance systems, including: ethical practice, operational performance review reports to ensure compliance with legislation, policy, procedures and delegations; business continuity planning; and legal compliance reporting
  • Be responsible for the financial, operational and administrative management of operational support services such as staff rostering/scheduling, inmate transfers and medical escorts activities.

About you
 
The successful candidate will have an extensive knowledge of contemporary ‘best practices’ on provision of correctional operational support services and be able to act as a strong change agent for reforms and new initiatives. An advanced ability to drive a continuous improvement agenda, define high level objectives and translate these into practical implementation strategies is essential in this role. Click here to download the full role description.
