About the business & role

The Mornington Peninsula Shire’s Planning Services Team is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and experienced Principal Planner.

The position is responsible for providing and facilitating a high quality service in relation to the Planning and Environment Act and Mornington Peninsula Planning Scheme.

Job Tasks & Responsibilities

You will provide support to the Team Leader Planning Services and the wider Planning Services Unit through the ability to provide strong mentoring and leadership to the team.

The successful applicant will be dealing with a diverse range of interesting and challenging planning applications and will possess a detailed knowledge and understanding of planning principles and legislation. The ability to communicate effectively, work as part of a team and lead by example is vital.

Skills & Experience

Substantial experience in assessing large scale and complex planning permit applications and processing planning scheme amendments is required for the position as well as a thorough understanding of Council’s legislative requirements.

You will have excellent written, verbal and presentation skills with the ability to be customer focused while managing a significant workload in a fast past environment.

You will also have the ability to work in a digitised and electronic processing environment.

An Undergraduate degree in town planning or a related discipline (eg: environmental science, urban design, land surveying, architecture, etc) and knowledge of the Planning and Environment Act 1987, the Subdivision Act 1988, and other relevant Acts and Regulations as well as a current driver’s license is essential to the position.

A current Working with Children Check (WWCC) and a Police Records Check is required prior to commencing employment with the Shire.
