Duration: 36 months plus
Location: Queanbeyan (with potential for consideration of remote basing in locations such as Jindabyne or Tumut)

The EPA is offering the opportunity to work as an Environment Officer within the South-East Region of NSW. The region is environmentally diverse, encompassing the South Coast, Snowy Mountains and Southern Tablelands and has a wide range of activities that fall within the EPA’s environmental protection and regulation portfolio.

About the Role: 
 The role will contribute to South East Region’s EPA responsibilities as the State’s primary environmental regulator. This will include working with business, government and the community to identify, manage, and reduce pollution as well as responding to environmental incidents and emergencies. It will also be responsible for identifying and recommending relevant actions to address poor environmental performance of industry, the public sector, landholders and the general community to ensure the environment and human health is protected.
 
The successful applicant should have a good understanding of environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks, and experience in resolving environment protection issues. They will have strong self-management skills, the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of stakeholders and demonstrated skills in the development of on-ground solutions to environmental issues.
 
The role will require travel for periods of time and the ability to work remotely at isolated works sites within the region.
 
Primary purpose of the role:
Undertake diverse day-to-day tasks relating to the application of EPA legislative responsibilities in assigned regulatory area/s involving major issues affecting the EPA, and activities relating to other regulatory functional areas, as required by EPA operational priorities.


Essential requirements
· Sound understanding of the relevant policies, practices and legislative requirements that govern the EPA’s operations.


· Knowledge and experience in of one or more environment protection areas, including: air, water, noise, waste, chemicals, hazardous materials, radiation & environmental planning.


· Knowledge and experience in applying current relevant environmental legislation, with demonstrated ability to interpret other environmental legislation.


· Current drivers licence
