An exciting opportunity has emerged for the above position based in Perth with frequent travelling to Canberra and other travel within Australia as required.

This position would suit a highly motivated person, with skills in finance and/or economics (but not necessarily) with experience in a similar role.

Applicants should possess strong analytical and communication skills, effective judgement and strong evaluation capabilities.

 

Duties Include:

  • Research and advise on legislation introduced to the Senate covering a broad range of issues.
  • Provide advice on a range of federal issues focusing on the interests of Western Australia.
  • Assist in the preparation of speech notes, Senate committee questions, briefings and policy development.
  •  Attend meetings with constituents, party members and other advisors as required.
  • Liaise and consult with a wide range of stakeholders, including industry, Commonwealth and State/Territory agencies, to extract feedback on issues requiring attention, and to provide advice to others on the issues.
     

Applicants should:

  • Have a keen interest or qualifications in politics and an understanding of the current political and economic climate with tertiary qualifications highly regarded.
  • Have a strong knowledge of federal parliamentary processes.
  • Be skilled at communication and liaison, with an ability to engage and network with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Have good people skills, a friendly and outgoing personality and the ability to be very diplomatic.
  • Have capacity to work irregular hours if required; e.g. late night sittings in Canberra
  • Experience in law, finance or economics (preferred but not essential).
  • Have a good working knowledge of the Microsoft office skills.

 

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016-2019. A total salary in excess of $117,000 is payable.

A probationary period of three months will apply.
