The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) is seeking a suitably qualified or experienced Assistant Registrar who can lead the Tasmania Registry to deliver high quality client services to parties, representatives and other AAT stakeholders.

The Assistant Registrar will provide advice regarding the AAT’s jurisdiction, practices and procedures and respond to more complex enquiries from parties, legal practitioners and other government agencies.

The role will also lead a small team to facilitate listings and conduct of proceedings and provide administrative and other support services to AAT members based in Hobart.  A significant focus in the immediate future will be establishing an integrated team undertaking the breadth of the Tribunal’s work for Tasmania.

The Tasmania Registry shares facilities and services with the Federal Court of Australia (FCA) under a memorandum of understanding. The role will work cooperatively with Court staff to manage this arrangement and ensure the most efficient use of facilities.

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) was established on 1 July 1976 and provides a one-stop shop for the independent review of a wide range of decisions made by the Australian Government. 

The AAT can review decisions made under more than 400 Commonwealth and Norfolk Island laws, and in limited circumstances, decisions made by state government and non-government bodies. The most common types of decisions we review relate to child support, Commonwealth workers' compensation, family assistance, paid parental leave, social security, student assistance, migration and refugee visas and visa related decisions, taxation and veterans' entitlements.
