About the Position
Located in our Economy, Planning and Environment Directorate, the City Planning Branch takes a strategic approach with long-term planning and policy development to manage the city’s growth and development while protecting and conserving our natural resources and heritage.
The Senior Conservation Partnerships Officer is responsible for providing expertise and advice relevant to the protection and enhancement of the City's natural environment on private land. The position will assist to develop and deliver schemes offered through the City's Conservation Partnerships Program, including Land for Wildlife, Voluntary Conservation Agreements and the Nature Conservation Assistance Program.
The position is part time from September 2018 to March 2020 for 14.5 hours (2 days) per week. Please note entitlements and salary displayed will be pro-rated based on part time hours worked.
Key position responsibilities
- develop and implement strategies, policies and procedures to deliver conservation extension support and guidance to private landholders
- provide advice to private landholders, regarding the on-ground management of their properties, to manage environmental threats and improve ecological value and function
- prepare conservation management and habitat restoration plans
To succeed in this position you will;
- be experienced in delivering conservation extension or similar programs related to habitat restoration and management
- have good knowledge of Gold Coast flora and fauna and a comprehensive understanding of ecological restoration in a habitat management context
- be well organised, possess excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- be able to demonstrate initiative and enjoy working within a team as well as autonomously
- have the ability to build and maintain appropriate and productive relationships with team members, professional staff clients and a wide variety of stakeholders
- apply initiative, judgement and project management skills including the development and/or application of innovative techniques, methodologies, policies and practices
- mentor, motivate and provide expert advice to staff, contractors and landholders
- have demonstrated experience undertaking conservation extension programs, natural resource partnering, or environmental education activities related to habitat restoration and management
- possess a sound understanding of the South East Queensland Ecological Restoration Framework and how it should be applied to extension activities and training
- possess tertiary qualifications in environmental science, natural resource management and/or land management or equivalent knowledge
