An exciting opportunity exists for two suitably qualified Environmental Health Officers seeking a challenging role in a dynamic and unique environment.  The ideal candidates will deliver effective health services to a diverse and progressive community within the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley.

Location

The East Kimberley is a picturesque and rugged sparsely populated northeast corner of Western Australia (WA) and is one of the world's last wilderness frontiers. As a global tourism attraction it is known for luxury accommodation, great food and friendly locals, and is a very amazing and unique part of Australia

The Position

Ensure proper standard of public and environmental health is maintained

  • Promote and provide relevant information to the community on public and environmental health issues
  • Investigation of breaches of relevant Council Local Laws administered by the Environmental Health Unit and providing input into policy and procedures.
  • Investigation and/or preparation of reports pertaining to matters of public and environmental health inspection premises registered under the Food Act and Public Health
  • Experience in researching, planning, developing and managing services, programs and activities

The Person

The successful applicants must hold formal qualifications as an Environmental Health Officer and desirably have Local Government experience.  Graduates are encouraged to apply.

  • Tertiary Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or other qualifications and experience acceptable to the Department of Health.
  • Working knowledge of the relevant Acts and regulations in relation to Environmental Health and an ability to apply relevant legislation whilst carrying out enforcement/education activities
  • Responding to and assisting with programs and projects
  • Experienced in assessment and investigation of environmental health matters including environmental assessment of development applications,
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships in a diverse community.
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Current Class C Driver License
