The Director, Learning & Development (L&D), impacts business outcomes by leveraging their L&D and department-specific business expertise to proactively influence talent and business decisions.
The Director leads and manages the L&D team that is responsible for providing specialised learning strategy, governance, advice and solutions to ensure that the department’s corporate L&D effort aligns with, and supports, the department’s strategic objectives.
Key duties include:
• managing and leading a team providing a broad range of activities in the development of L&D strategy, frameworks and governance materials and in the development and implementation of learning solutions
•providing high-level, strategic advice and policy direction on L&D issues whilst promoting a learning culture in the department
•delivering an updated departmental L&D strategy to set the direction and objectives for the L&D function
•overseeing the development of L&D policies, procedures and programs to achieve corporate objectives, and contribute to the effective operation of the team
•analysing, designing and developing department-wide L&D frameworks and programs aligned to business needs for implementation
• managing the provision of guidance on training needs analysis, training design, development, delivery and/or evaluation through the development of learning solutions, policies and governance materials
•managing the implementation of best approaches to developing capabilities and increasing operational effectiveness and informing business decisions
•liaising with internal stakeholders, including business areas, HR People Partners and other learning and development specialists across the department
• managing, promoting and engaging in the department’s L&D community of practice
•liaising, negotiating and representing the department’s and team’s workplace interests with other government agencies
•managing budgets where required.
