  • Lead the preparation of advanced strategic analysis reports which identify and explore new, emerging and enduring risks within the youth justice and corrections systems
  • Lead the monitoring and assessment of serious incidents (including deaths, serious assaults, riots and escapes) involving custodial prisoners, offenders in the community and young people involved with youth justice.

About us

The Justice Assurance and Review Office (JARO) operates as an internal review and assurance function to advise the Secretary, Department of Justice and Regulation (DJR) on the performance of the youth justice and corrections systems. JARO provides the Secretary with high-quality advice on areas of risk and opportunities for improvement across the youth justice and corrections systems.

JARO's role complements external independent oversight functions, for example the services provided by the:

  • Victorian Ombudsman
  • Commission for Children and Young People
  • Victorian Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission
  • Victorian Auditor General's Office
  • Coroners Court of Victoria.

About the role

As the Senior Analyst, you will report to the Manager, Information and Analysis and lead the development of high quality strategic analysis reports on emerging trends and risks relevant to the youth justice and corrections systems. In the role, you will also take a lead role in the monitoring and assessment of serious incidents to determine whether JARO should undertake further activities.

About you

As our ideal candidate, you will have:

  • experience undertaking high level analysis of complex issues within the criminal justice system and/or within a criminal intelligence analysis environment
  • exceptional written communication skills with the ability to distil analysis of complex issues into clear, succinct and logical findings and recommendations
  • high level computer skills with the ability to perform queries across complex datasets (including the ability to join and match).
