About the role
Reporting to the Executive Director, Department for Trade, Tourism and Investment, the Country Director, China plays a critical role in identifying market opportunities in the greater China market to drive trade, tourism and investment outcomes for South Australia.
The position will play a key role in promoting and supporting South Australian businesses in China by leveraging established business networks to take advantage of emerging commercial opportunities. Representing South Australian business interests at the highest levels will be a core responsibility.
Suitably qualified applications are sought from candidates with strong, high-level business and government networks in China. Complemented by a sophisticated understanding of South Australia's business capability and international competitiveness.
The candidate will have commercial and political acumen, along with excellent communication, negotiation, stakeholder management and leadership skills. A critical part of the role will involve timely dissemination of information back to South Australian industry, identifying opportunities and challenges. Maximum flexibility and pragmatism are also necessary to influence and succeed in this role.

Skills and experience
- The position is Shanghai based with a locally engaged contract of 3 years
- Candidates with established business networks in Australia and China are preferred
- A proven track record in international business development is an advantage
- Fluency in Mandarin and English is essential
