Smartair Diffusion is an international distributor of several air diffusion brands, including its own brand Smartemp. Smartemp products are designed in-house and embody the key company values of high quality and energy efficiency whilst maintaining superior comfort and noise characteristics. An innovative design approach has achieved industry leading performance and resulted in international patents being taken up for many Smartemp designs.
We are seeking a graduate Mechanical Engineer to join Smartair’s Research and Development team based in Marrickville, Sydney. You will assist with the design and development of the next generation of air diffusion products. You will draft concepts and designs using Creo. The drafting will involve moving assemblies. Some parts incorporate highly complex surfaces and geometries.
Design work will include prototyping using 3D printing, hand crafting models and iterative improvements based on laboratory testing. Smartair sets new product benchmarks by developing creative concepts to enhance the performance, mechanical operation and quality of its products.
You will test prototypes and products in Smartair’s new Marrickville laboratories. Pressure, heating penetration, cooling turndown, acoustics and occupant comfort are all tested to cover the many performance aspects of air diffusion.
Collaboration with the Smartemp factory engineers in China is essential to produce cost competitive and high quality products suitable for mass production. Highly developed communication and collaboration skills are required for this role.
Your skills / Qualifications
- Completed degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
- Practical hands-on skills are required for building prototypes and constructing lab mock-up environments.
- Hobbies or interests which involve mechanical problem solving are beneficial.
- Workshop experience and craftsmanship involving timber, sheet metal, 3D printing, craft etc. will be beneficial.
- Must be able to apply mechanical engineering theory to solve mechanical design problems.
- 3D CAD skills in programs such as Solidworks, Creo or ProE is beneficial.
- Basic understanding of thermodynamics and fluid dynamics is required.
- Basic understanding of HVAC concepts is desirable.
