We operate and maintain Melbourne’s Metropolitan train network. Successfully transporting over 400,000 passengers per day is achieved by our large dedicated workforce. The Comeng is Metro’s oldest fleet with 90 trains carrying 170,000 passengers daily. The fleet has been life extended with over $100M invested in more than 50 improvements to increase capacity, improve reliability, address obsolescence and sustain safety in order to support growth of Melbourne’s Metropolitan Rail Network. Through implementation of modern technology, engineering first principles and steadfast implementation of daily performance management, our team of high-performing Engineers and Officers has grown reliability by more than 10% year-on-year to meet growing demands.

The Position

The Comeng team has an opportunity for a Reliability Officer. You will also work closely with Maintenance, Planning and Operations to ensure that fleet issues are promptly and correctly diagnosed and resolved. The role will suit an energetic, well-organised person with a great eye for detail, strong root cause analysis skills and plenty of team spirit.

You will be technically familiar with rolling stock electrical and mechanical systems. Key deliverables include (but not limited to):

  • Work closely with Engineering, Maintenance, Planning and Operations;
  • Manage the daily service affecting-failure analysis and tracking process (Performance Tracker) including prioritisation of defect rectification works, and co-ordination between Planning and Depots;
  • Continually review and improve the Performance Tracker and related processes;
  • Maintain relationships with key stakeholders to co-ordinate efforts and ensure cross function communication;
  • Undertake root cause analysis on Driver defect allegations, either as a desktop activity (e.g., using VICERS or ROCM data analysis tools) or in the field/shopfloor;
  • Audit defects from cradle to grave to ensure operational containment measures and efficient repair solutions are implemented to minimise repeat failures, manage safety and maintain compliance with established maintenance procedures;
  • Develop root cause analysis and fault-finding tools to aide maintainers in identification of repeat defects, providing on the job training where necessary;
  • Support data collection, analysis and reporting;
Requirements
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Rolling Stock technical environment;
  • Trade qualified and/or associate diploma in Electrical Technology/Engineering;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills – with proven ability to develop and maintain relationships with stakeholders;
  • Competent in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.
