About the role:

 

Under the guidance of Telecommunication Network and Infrastructure Engineers, provide professional drafting services for new and enhanced telecommunications network solutions, as well as the associated infrastructure such as communications shelter, tower/pole for communications equipment, power systems (batteries, generators, solar power), and electrical systems needed to house and power networking equipment in remote communications networks.

This role requires an experienced draftsperson with experience specifically in electro-mechanical drafting. Experience in other areas including civil/structural and/or telecommunications drafting, and/or someone who is looking to extend their experience into these areas, would be well suited to this role.  This role also requires experience in a range of drafting tools, specifically MicroStation but may also include AutoCAD and/or 3D modelling software such as Solidworks. 

The senior draftsperson will also be responsible for the development and maintenance of drawing standards and templates for the company, ensuring compliance with International Standards (ISO), Australian Standards (AS) as well as customer specific standards.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

The key accountabilities and responsibilities include:

  • Develop drawings to support Design, Construction and Installation documentation.
  • Develop drawings from engineer's sketches and physical inspection of equipment.
  • Establish and maintain internal company standards and templates for drawings, with consideration of Australian Standards and/or customer specifications.
  • Ensure drawings are produced in compliance with agreed standards, and ensure internal quality review and signoff before submitting to the customer.
  • Define, assign and control drawing document numbering, change control and storage company-wide.
  • Maintain a cross reference between CommTel document numbers and customer document numbers as required.

Skills and Experience required:

 

Essential:

 

  • Diploma or Certificate in Drafting, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years (with demonstrable portfolio of own work) of experience in electro-mechanical drafting
  • Minimum 5 years of CAD software experience, ideally in Microstation and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrable experience in establishing and maintaining drafting standards and templates, with consideration of external standards such as:
    • Customer-specific standards, ideally in the mining or utilities sector
  • Relevant ISO Standards, such as ISO 128
  • Relevant AS/NZ Standards, such as AS1100, AS3995, AS3000
  • Strong problem solving skills with the ability to take loosely defined requirements and designs from engineers and gather the necessary information to ensure drawings are precise, and are in compliance with customer requirements and the necessary standards.
  • Proficient in implementing structured libraries of drawings and maintaining strict version control and document listings.
  • Must be a self-starter, highly motivated and capable of carrying out the role with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Word and Excel.

    • Experience in civil, structural and/or telecommunications drafting
    • Experience in drafting of telecommunications network solutions and the associated infrastructure such as shelter, tower/pole, power systems (batteries, generators, solar power), and electrical systems.
    • Experience of drafting in the telecommunications, transport, mining, utilities and/or emergency services industries;
    • Experience in 3D modelling software such as SolidWorks
    • Exposure to external guidelines and standards such as:
      • Telecommunications Act
    • Deployment Code (ACIF/MERCS)
    • Electrical Code
    • National Building Code
