The Opportunity

Due to growth within our Fire Protection and Maintenance division, we are currently seeking an enthusiastic, dedicated graduate to join our team.

You will be mentored by our experienced members of the fire engineering industry and therefore be provided with a great opportunity to develop your skills further.

You will be able to utilise your strong problem solving abilities and excellent approach to client/customer service, whilst working on a range of projects. 

The Purpose of the Role

As a valuable member of the fire protection and maintenance team the Graduate Fire Engineer will support fire safety design, installation, modification and life cycle maintenance for a wide range of industrial clients facilities and buildings. This will be delivered by ensuring the reliability and effectiveness of suitable fire protection systems.

Under the supervision of the Fire Engineers and the FPS Operations Manager, the graduate will also provide assistance in identification and compliance with fire safety requirements in accordance with relevant legislation and standards.

Responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop and review electrical schematics and process control documentation associated with fire detection and suppression systems
  • Apply basic technical solutions in support of client activities and make filed decisions on engineering standards and procedures.
  • Assist clients and staff with solutions, proposals, fire engineering and review for fire protection services
  • Conduct work programming and implementation of safety and quality assurance systems on project or work packages
  • Assist with the development of corrosion control solutions for fire suppression systems
  • Support the preparation and implementation of project specific documentation
  • Assist in preparation of engineering assessments and quality documentation for service routines and installation/commissioning works
  • Assist in the design and commissioning of new or modifications of fire detection and suppression systems

The successful candidates will hold the following qualifications and experience:

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with exposure to and/or a strong interest in Fire Safety 
  • Have the ability to prioritise work and work to meet multiple deadlines
  • Be a recent graduate with demonstrated work experience within the engineering industry
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated time management and organisational skills 
  • Well-developed interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • A strong sense of commitment, a willingness to learn
  • Ability to work away on site and interstate occasionally 
  • Drivers Licence

Applicants with the following additional qualifications and skills will be looked upon favourably:

  • First Aid Certificate
  • OHS Construction Induction
  • Experience in Mechanical/Mechatronics Engineering or equivalent
  • Postgraduate studies in Fire Safety or willingness to undertake further studies in the field
  • Ability to develop and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
  • Ability to actively promote and participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ability to operate under quality systems

Successful Candidates will also be willing to undertake and successfully complete:

  • National Police Records Check
  • Pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Relevant Company/Site Inductions as required
