The $8.3 billion Sydney Metro North West is Australia’s biggest public transport project. The Sydney Metro North West will be Australia’s first fully-automated rail system and the first stage in Sydney’s new rapid transit network. 
 
NRT Systems Joint Venture (SJV) is an unincorporated, integrated joint venture between MTR Corporation and UGL. The joint venture has been formed to deliver the Trains and Systems scope for the Sydney Metro North West. SJV will design and deliver the tunnel systems, rolling stock, rail signalling and overall control systems for the project. 
 
Reporting to the HSEQ Manager at the Bella Vista location, you will be accountable for developing and delivering the quality policy, procedure and plans for SJV.  This position will ensure that best practice management techniques are adopted to reflect the commitment to the highest standards in Quality Management.
 
Your key responsibilities will include:
 
 
Review contractor’s submissions, and coordinate/consolidate comments from other reviewers, and make recommendation on approval status.
Coordinate and collect inputs from contractor and other consortium members to prepare Design Package Report for submission to TfNSW and IC.
Monitor the design approval process to ensure contractor’s submissions are delivered in compliance with the specified standards, safety, quality and system assurance requirements.
Coordinate and conduct regular interface meetings with the contractor and other interfacing system contractors to ensure compliance with the specified interface requirements and timely exchange of accurate interface information.
Resolve critical design issues. Prepare reports on design issues/problems, analyse/evaluate and make recommendation on options.
Provide support to external consultancies, including noise, fire and EMC consultants, and coordinate their activities with other relevant teams.
Monitor project progress and key dates achievement through close coordination and supervision of contractor to ensure appropriate testing, material and workmanship are employed. Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports.
Manage the change control process and assess the justification, cost and programme impact and submit details to appropriate authority for approval.
Conduct regular progress and technical meetings with contractor and other team members to resolve problems. Ensure accurate record and timely resolution of actions.
Manage the contractor to ensure robust demonstration of compliance with the specified requirements and ensure the ComplyPro data base is maintained with current information.
Participate and input into RAMS and hazard analysis workshops for product and integration safety of the rolling stock and other associated rail systems.
Represent SJV’s interests in the technical and engineering consideration, to the position’s level of competency, for the rolling stock within the Consortium and to external stakeholders.
 
 
To be successful you will:
 
Professional degree in engineering (electrical / mechanical)
Member status Engineers Australia or Chartered Engineer
At least 10 years’ relevant workforce experience since graduation
At least 5 years’ experience in passenger trains design and project management
At least 3 years’ experience supporting Senior Management
Thorough knowledge of own subject area or discipline and basic knowledge of others
Working knowledge and understanding of rail industry practices.
Plans and conducts professional engineering work without detailed supervision.
Provide project oversight to technicians, and assists with more complicated tasks.
Generates solutions based on the integration of multiple data sources from a variety of areas.
Participates in internal and external technical and professional activities.
Can work independently to carry out complex activities.
Ability to train new members.
Interacts with cross-functional teams and regularly exchanges information with others.
Assists in the design of larger and more complex assignments.
Understanding of objectives of the area and related rail safety, work, health and safety and risk regulations / industry requirements.
Work is guided by area or assignment objectives.
Makes decisions within scope of broad work assignments.
Uses technological advances in work to improve quality, results and efficiency.
Leader to self.
Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite of programs
Strong communication skills (oral & written) including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with a variety of people at different levels both internally and externally.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to organise and prioritise demands, handle multiple complex tasks simultaneously, set and meet deadlines and follow-through within a fast paced environment with multiple and competing demands
